About the Masterclass
Wednesday 14 April 2027 | DGI Byen, Copenhagen, Denmark | Hybrid attendance available
The ECM Pharmacology Masterclass provides an introduction to the biology of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and its growing importance in drug development. The program brings together scientists from academia and industry to discuss how ECM remodeling influences disease progression and treatment response, and how ECM biomarkers can support translational research, clinical trials, and regulatory decision-making.
Throughout the day, participants will move from the fundamentals of ECM biology to real-world applications across fibrosis, inflammation, cancer, and other chronic diseases. The goal is to provide a practical understanding of where the field stands today and where ECM-based approaches may have the greatest impact in the future.
The masterclass is organised as a hybrid event, allowing participants to join either in person in Copenhagen or online. Attendance is free of charge, and in-person registration includes breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks, and networking opportunities with speakers and fellow participants.
Scientific Program
The program provides an introduction to ECM biology and its application in translational research, biomarker development, and drug development. Sessions are led by experts from academia and industry and combine scientific presentations with discussion of real-world applications.
Session titles:
- ECM basics: The why, what and how of collagens, laminins and elastin
- The ECM in healthy versus diseased organs
- Changes in the ECM during cancer progression
- Inflammation and tissue destruction as therapeutic targets in IBD
- Panel discussion: From idea to regulatory approval – Unicorn biomarkers
- Implementation of biomarkers in clinical development
- Disease activity versus fibrosis stage
- Submitted abstracts and panel discussion
